British
Gas have recently occupied two new sites which we undertook
in parallel, the first was Southwood Business Park in
Farnborough, Hampshire, for British Gas Home and road
services, and the second site was Blythe Valley Business
Park, Solihull, Midlands, for British Gas Trading. At
Southwood 2 of a 3-building complex were occupied, utilising
the 3-storey rectalinear building format, housing comms
rooms, a major restaurant facility, 24-hour National Control
Centre, executive offices and conference facilities. Four
pipe fan coils served the office, conference and restaurant
facilities, with dedicated services to suit.
At
Solihull, a large single ‘A’ shaped building was occupied
on a call centre type basis, with a large reception/greeting
space dominating the entrance and central core of the
building. Facilities included training rooms, data centres,
substantial restaurant and conference facilities. VAV
air conditioning was selected to complement the intense
occupancy, together with the opportunity of reducing
running costs for the extended operating hours that
this building required. The central UK location means
that this building is frequently used by many of the
British Gas companies as a useful conference facility.
